This particular sunday on the pond, a surprise awaited us.  Normally the home of only 2 pair of adult loons and their chicks, eight adult loons gathered together from  all of the adjacent ponds and lakes.  They were flying all around us and landing one at a time.  When the eight had gathered , they leisurely paddled around the pond as a group.  This behavior is believed to signal the beginning of migration activities.  It was beautiful to observe and photograph.
